Traveling with pets

Each airline sets its own rules for traveling with pets. The airport does not define them: you must book your pet’s space with the airline when buying your ticket, because the number of spots per flight is limited.

Book early

Cabin spots for pets are few on each flight.

Carrier

It must fit under the seat and be ventilated and leak-proof.

International flights

SENASICA inspects the pet on arrival in Mexico.

Rules of the main airlines

AeroméxicoSmall dogs and catsMaximum 9 kg including the carrier; minimum age 8 weeks
VolarisDogs and catsMaximum 10 kg with a 44 x 30 x 19 cm carrier; minimum age 4 months; brachycephalic breeds not accepted
VivaDogs and catsCarrier up to 44 x 35 x 21 cm; check weight and fee when booking
Policies change often. Confirm weight, dimensions and fees on your airline’s website before buying your ticket.

If you arrive in Monterrey from abroad

On arrival, SENASICA inspects the pet and issues the zoosanitary import certificate.

  • If you come from the United States or Canada, no health certificate is required.
  • If you come from another country, present a veterinary certificate issued within the previous 15 days, proof of rabies vaccination and proof of internal and external deworming within the last six months.
  • The carrier must arrive clean, without bedding, toys or treats of ruminant origin.

On the day of your flight

  • Check in earlier than usual: the pet is registered at the airline counter.
  • At security, you will take the pet out of the carrier so the carrier can go through the scanner.
  • Bring water, a leash and waste bags.
