Customs
Every passenger arriving in Mexico on an international flight goes through customs at Monterrey International Airport after immigration and baggage claim.
What counts as baggage
For Mexican customs, baggage means the personal belongings you carry when entering or leaving the country, for personal use and not for sale. It is not subject to taxes as long as it stays within the legal limits.
Duty-free allowance
In addition to your baggage, you may bring goods worth up to USD 500 without paying taxes when you arrive by air, all year round.
Customs declaration
- Every person entering Mexico must submit a customs declaration, even with nothing to declare.
- If you carry goods above the allowance, declare them and pay the corresponding taxes.
- You can fill in the declaration online in advance and print it, or use the forms available in the customs area of the airport.
The customs traffic light
When you hand in your declaration, you press a button that randomly decides whether your baggage goes through a second inspection. If the goods you carry exceed what you declared in value or quantity, you may be fined and the goods may be seized.
Phones, cameras and audio or video recorders may not be used in the customs area.
